October 15, 2021, that was the day that Abel Rodríguez died from what would have been a pulmonary embolism, according to his relatives at the time. He was 50 years old and was carrying out an audiovisual project for the Telemundo network from the scenography area.
The Cuban artist was based in Miami along with his wife, the Colombian Ana López, with whom he had been in a relationship for 11 years and she was precisely the person who described the moments prior to the deterioration of her partner’s health, to the point of reaching her death a little over a month ago.
In dialogue with the program ‘La Red’, the actress reported that both got up early at five in the morning to work; while he addressed the production company, she stayed home.
“(…) We had a coffee and he left for his work and I stayed at home, when it was 8 in the morning, the Doral Police -City located in Miami-Dade County, Florida- called me to tell me that my husband was being taken to the emergency room “López told the entertainment magazine. When they broke the news, she hung up the phone thinking it was a joke in bad taste, to which several moments later she received another call reiterating what had happened.
“After five seconds a colleague from his work calls me, and informs me that it is true. I left immediately for the hospital, that was on Monday, October 11 at 8 in the morning (…) at 11, the doctors’ diagnosis was that there was brain damage ”, the woman counted. Later, they confirmed to her that her husband had no chance of surviving, as the damage was very serious.
The diagnosis that the doctors at the healthcare center gave him was brain death because he had “a white cloud that shouldn’t be there “ surrounding your brain. Additionally, they let him know that the last thing that could be done was to sign a consent so that the Cuban could die with dignity, “and that is what I did.”
“There was nothing to do, keeping him alive was simply the selfishness of us, who were here, and he left me a memory of a wonderful weekend”the actress revealed in tears. She confessed that she feels Rodríguez’s presence in her home and that despite that loss, she needs to get ahead not only for Benjamin – Abel and Ana’s firstborn – but for the actor’s other two children, Paula and Muriel, and for herself.
“I know that he -Abel- would not have liked to see me badly, since he said that I was his best work of art,” concluded the Colombian.
It is worth remembering that after the death of the Cuban artist, one of the most emotional messages was precisely that of Paula, who has become an influencer. Through his Instagram account, he shared with his 222 thousand followers.
“Some say I have your lips, and your nose, those who knew you and have talked to me told me that I reminded them of you, I don’t know, but I don’t doubt it. I have to use my imagination, the one they say I also inherited from you, to create scenarios with you where I see you after so long (…) Rest dad, peace and light for your soul I wish you with all my heart. Hopefully, wherever you are, you will read this, ”he inserted as the caption of a black and white snapshot of Línea Vedado street, located in Havana.
