This Sunday the American actor died at the age of 71 and due to natural causes William Hurta cinematographic icon in the 80s of the last century who later turned towards more secondary roles to which he always provided the maximum cache.

“With great sadness, the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar-winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week shy of his 72nd birthday,” posted the actor’s son, Will.

“He died peacefully, among the family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time.”he added.

The actor had been diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer in May 2018, but his son’s statement does not specify whether the disease contributed to Hurt’s death.

Hurt built his reputation on his willingness to play wacky and unusual charactersas a Russian policeman in “Gorky Park” (1983), a wealthy and distant husband in Woody Allen’s “Alice” (1990), and a man seeking to build a machine to benefit the blind in “Until the End of Time.” world” (1991).

Born in Washington in 1950, Hurt studied acting at the Juilliard School with Robin Williams and Christopher Reeve, and made his debut in the science fiction film “Altered States” (“An amazing trip to the back of the mind”) in 1980, a role which earned him a nomination for Best New Star at the Golden Globes.

Other of his outstanding cinematographic participations were in “AI (Artificial Intelligence)” (“AI Artificial Intelligence”, 2001), “The Village” (“The Village”, 2004), “The Good Shepherd” (“The Good Shepherd”, 2006).

He also played Thaddeus Ross in the Marvel universe. In addition to “The Incredible Hulk,” Hurt’s character appeared in four Marvel movies, including “Captain America: Civil War”, “Avengers: Infinity War”, “Avengers: Endgame” and “Black Widow”.

In addition to winning the Oscar in 1985, Hurt received nominations for the top film award three other times: “Broadcast News” (“On the edge of the news”, 1987), “Children of a lesser God” (“Children of a lesser God ”, 1986) and “A History of Violence” (“A history of violence”, 2005), where he only appeared about 10 minutes on stage.

Hurt also acted in stage productions such as “Henry V”, “Fifth of July”, “Richard II” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and received a Tony Award nomination in 1985 for Hurlyburly.

The last job he did before he died was playing Donald Cooperman in 14 episodes of the Amazon series “Goliath.”

Despite his fame, Hurt never settled in Hollywood, instead making his home in Oregon. Even in interviews he always expressed that he was uncomfortable with stardom. “I don’t feel comfortable with all this,” he said in a report.

His private life, however, seems straight out of Hollywood.

Hurt married the aspiring actress Mary Beth Supinger after finishing her studies at Tufts, and followed her to London to study drama. They divorced upon her return to New York.

In the late 1980s, he was sued by a former partner, the ballet dancer Sandra Jennings, who is the mother of one of his children. She had two others from another marriage and a daughter, Jeanne, from a relationship with the French actress Sandrine Bonaire.

Hurt was fluent in French and was also an avid private pilot.
