St George, 35, said the relationship sparked a wave of scrutiny from the media and the public, and that their “privacy suddenly ended.”
“Almost every day a new story appeared in the press, my friends from school were questioned, and there were photographers outside my front door,” he recalled.
St George did not say why the couple broke up, only that she was “sad at the time.”
“My hat is off to those people who can cope with that lifestyle, but I knew I couldn’t. Although it was sad at the time, I feel fortunate that the relationship was short-lived, ”she said.
The model has been married to Henry St George, Vice President of the Grand Bahama Port Authority, since 2013.
The couple has two children; a daughter named Iris, 5, and a son named Jimmy, 3.
Also in the interview, St George spoke candidly about his struggles with mental health.
She revealed that she has suffered from anxiety since her teens, and was also diagnosed with postpartum depression after giving birth for the first time.
“As soon as I gave birth to my daughter Iris, we fell in love. She was perfect and I felt an overwhelming protective instinct towards her, ”he said.
But that night, I also felt a chemical change within me. I would laugh and love one minute, sob and get angry the next. “
The mother of two said she “lost herself in fear and worry” and ultimately sought help from a doctor after her family encouraged her.
“After seven long months I was diagnosed with postpartum depression. The doctor asked me what makes me happy, as a way of trying to diagnose myself, and I couldn’t answer, ”he recalled.
“Despite having a husband and baby that I loved deeply, I still couldn’t remember the last time I really felt happy.”
She revealed that in addition to being prescribed medication, she had found comfort in pottery.
“I forced myself to pick up the clay and start playing. The feel of the soft, wet material was very relaxing, ”he said.
“I made a small pot, dug my thumb into the center of the clay and slowly shaped it. I was so absorbed in the task, and when I finished it, I felt a buzz of positivity. At that moment, I felt myself again ”.
St George said that working with the clay “felt like therapy” because it gave him a sense of accomplishment.
“The beauty of this was that there were no specific rules, I could go anywhere with that.”
