After more than a year of planning and after five months of recording, the new version of the soap opera Rich people cry too is ready for its premiere.
After the radio soap opera versions, in the fifties, and the remembered version of 1979, starring Verónica Castro, Venezuelan producer Carlos Bardasano is in charge of refreshing this classic story which will hit the screen this Monday, February 21.
In conversation with Infobae Mexico, Bardasano tells details of its production and advances what the public can expect in this story that comes to occupy the schedule of the soap opera If they let us, also produced by him:
“There are several attractions, beyond recognizing a story… We place the story in this 2022 that has fierce competition with a programming offer like never before on television…every day it is more difficult to surprise and that for me is the great challenge”.
To achieve this, the director also made use of adaptations in the plot, in order to show a reality more in keeping with the times.
“We add a series of plots, universes and characters to show in this new count, For example, the expansion of the business world of the Salvatierra companies, which had not been seen in any version, we entered into the conflicts of a family business. Our patriarch, Don Alberto Salvatierra, owner and tycoon, this time he is divorced, he has remarried and his new wife brings a child into the family from a previous marriage, that generates conflict with the ex-wife, that adds conflict between our protagonist and his stepbrother”, says the producer.
“We add a very strong theme for this family, which was the death of the protagonist’s brother when they were very young, that generates a series of important motivations. Generates much more believable aspects in this new version. A very rich conflict is generated between father and son”
And it is that without necessarily being faithfully attached to the work of Inés Rodena, this new version presents adaptations that the same author would have made in the middle of 2022:
“We want to respect above all the nature of the characters, plots and conflicts, but there are definitely things that change and evolve depending on the world… it is the issue of the new configuration of families. Inés Rodena would not have imagined that her father was divorced, Divorce was so exotic at that time, but today perhaps the exotic thing is to see that couples are still married. More than respecting her spirit, it is to think that Inés Rodena if she were alive she would write it that way because when she wrote it reflected the reality of that time”, he expresses.
This version marks the return of the villain “Soraya Montenegro”embodied this time by Fabiola Guajardoand draws attention because it is the character that Itatí Cantoral popularized in Maria from the neighborhooda version of the story released in 1995. About this “coincidence” with the anti-heroine, the protagonist of internet memes, the producer says:
“All the characters are the originals of Rich people cry too, on Maria from the neighborhood they changed their nameswe wanted to go with the names of the original version, even of the radio, the only intention we had was with who was originally called Esther, it started as a matter of practicality because one of our writers is called Esther and it caused us a lot of confusion if we were talking about the character or the writer“, bill.
“If Soraya Montenegro, so wonderfully personified by Itatí, is a villain and evil reference on our television, you will see that there will be several winks for those who know and have seen all the versions, they know, it is a little gift that we give to the audience ”
But this direct reference is not the only wink that this story will present, also starring Claudia Martín and Sebastián Rulli, since the public will be able to discover other references from the world of soap operas as the story progresses:
“There is another nod that we have to another novel, which is not this version, but it is the one from ‘Pulgoso’, by Marimar, and in our version ‘Mariana’ has a dog and we decided to name it ‘Pulgoso’ and we put it on her because the godmother of ‘Mariana’ was a fan of Marimar, they are nods to the genre, to the melodramathe entrance song sung by Cristian Castro and Lucero, having Cristian is a nod to Verónica Castro, there are many little gifts that people are going to find”.
We would love to say thanks to the author of this write-up for this awesome web content
The rich also cry will wink at María la del barrio and Marimar
