A few days before Michelle Marie Colón Ramírez embarks on her journey to the Miss Universe final, this afternoon she presented the typical costume that she will wear in the competition to be held in Israel.
Today, during the broadcast of the program “Long live the afternoon” (Wapa TV), the queen unveiled the design called “Protectora de Nuestro Coasts” is a fantasy tribute to the Puerto Rican bomb and carries a message of awareness for the conservation of the environment .
“I wanted a dress that had color, movement and that transmitted energy! I am extremely happy to be able to bring to the universal stage not only these elements, but also to be able to represent the wealth of our Afro-descendants. The dress symbolizes the union and inclusion of the Caribbean culture, integrating into one piece ”, expressed Michelle.
The Puerto Rican Bomba, as a musical genre, has been and will be a cultural manifestation of freedom, empowerment and resistance. That is why, for the first time in history, the representative of Puerto Rico to the Miss Universe will pay tribute to the Puerto Rican Afro-descendants with a fantasy dress inspired by the bomb. The outfit also embraces Michelle’s love for our beaches and presents the importance and responsibility of protecting our natural resources, it was expressed in written communication.

The dress tells the story of a dancing deity who, with the energy produced by its rhythm and movement in the batey, protects the coasts from environmental pollution. The light blue color, the protagonist of the wide skirt and the stately turban, represents the bodies of water of Puerto Rico. He carries on his back a large basket made with scraps of recycled fabric in shades of red, yellow, and green, which chromatically represent the effort, determination and hope for the conservation of the environment and the collection of waste in the seas, it was added.
Items such as plastic bottles, caps and bags – some of the most common and harmful pollutants in the seas – were collected and transformed into art and music elements for this beautiful creation. Colorful flowers and tassels meticulously crafted from recycled materials decorate and energize the majestic outfit.
The dress is the product of a Caribbean alliance that featured the collaborative work of Dominican designers Leonel Lirio and plastic artist Luis Rivas.
“Being able to show the universe a creation inspired by recycling, was conceived with love, establishing in this way that it does not matter where the hands that make the work are from, but rather the feeling with which it is done and the intention to reveal the union and the beating of the hearts of the Caribbean nations: united we will be more powerful ”, expressed Leonel Lirio.
For his part, Luis Rivas added that the suit has unique and special details, with the intention of creating an ecological conscience by making a wake-up call to the world; with the advantage in addition to putting art in what others discard.
Michelle will face other queens from around the world to bring the sixth crown for Puerto Rico. The girls are expected to arrive in Israel between November 28 and 29, and stay at the Ramada Wyndham in Jerusalem until December 4. From that date, until the final night of the contest (which due to the time change in Israel will be December 13 at 2:00 in the morning), they will be at Isrotel Yam Suf in Eliat.
Contestants must have completed the doses of their vaccines against COVID-19. Upon arrival in Israel, they will undergo a PCR as well as a serological test, and they will be quarantined at the hotel for 24 hours, among other protocols that the Miss Universe Organization will follow due to the coronavirus.
Miss Universe is celebrated seven months after the Mexican Andrea Meza was crowned the queen of 2020, on May 16, 2021, due to the postponement of it due to the pandemic.
