“You have two minutes to comply”: they arrested a man who was extorting Ángel De Brito and seized a weapon

Two teams of the City Police arrived in the Buenos Aires town on April 9 with a clear objective: they had to enter a house on Calle San Nicolás from where, according to the Justice, they were threats and extortion against journalist and driver Ángel De Brito. The agents entered the home with the authorization of a prosecutor from Lomas de Zamora, who collaborated with the investigation started in Buenos Aires jurisdiction more than a year ago. Once inside they arrested a 34-year-old man who was armed.

In addition, the suspect had cell phones and electronic devices seized from where the crimes were committed.

These are some of the messages that De Brito received in 2019 and that came to him from different cell phones and social media accounts.

As a result of this, and the complaint made by his team of lawyers made up of Fernando Burlando and Martín Leguizamón, a case was initiated in the Cybercrime prosecutor’s office of the City of Buenos Aires, in charge of the prosecutor Horacio Azzolin.

From the investigation carried out by the Justice, which included the participation of the Illicit Computer Conduct Division of the City Police, the address was reached in the town of April 9. For this, different IP addresses were traced until finally reaching the alleged responsible.

In the documents that make up the court case, more threats and the content of each of them are specified: “These are not minor events, since we are faced with very serious threats received by De Brito. The threats have been growing, and it is seen in an emphatic and clear way ”.

For example, he wrote ‘Look, I start and take your number’ with GIFs of motorcycles and the latent threat of revealing the driver’s number. Or also, a ‘If you block me, I’ll write your number ‘; ‘I see that you are online and you do not deign to answer, I already gave you many opportunities’.

As indicated in the complaint, the journalist blocked the number, believing that in this way everything would be resolved. They called him then from another cell phone, repeating the modality. ‘You have two minutes to comply ‘, they warned him. ‘Now you have a minute. Your time is running out … ‘, was another of the threats.

With all this information, and the confirmation that the threats came from an address in the city of April 9, the Buenos Aires Justice sent an exhortation to the prosecutor Maria Soledad Rícagno, of the decentralized UFI N ° 4 of Esteban Echeverría, to order the procedure. The authorization arrived a few hours ago and the Police entered the suspect’s property.

Upon entering, the officers were greeted by a 34-year-old man who was detained. Inside the house they were kidnapped three cell phones, a modem, a tablet and two game consoles. All this material will be appraised in the next few hours. But it was not the only thing they found. The homeowner had a .22 caliber Browning pistol, which he was not carrying.
