In an interview with the media The Sun, Paul Rodríguez recalled the bitter experience he had when sharing a project with Will Smith, which was far from being what the actor of Mexican descent expected. On the contrary, the 67-year-old actor reported that each day of recording received a verbal slap by the winner of the Oscar for best actor, who did not stop having a rude attitude only with him.

Thus, Paul Rodríguez described as a nightmare to work next to Will Smith and pointed out that on different occasions the winner of the Oscar for best actor minimized his character in Ali.

“That movie was meant to be a huge springboard in my career, but for me It ended up being a nightmare because of all the disgusting abuse I received from Smith. He was mean to me but kind to everyone else. It was something like Jekyll and Hyde…”, pointed out Paul Rodríguez.

The actor of Mexican roots declared that Will Smith constantly bullied him and even took it upon himself to turn the entire cast of the film against himwhich made the recordings become a real torture for Paul Rodríguez.

Paul Rodríguez and Will Smith were part of the cast of the film Ali, same that premiered at the beginning of the 2000s and whose direction was in charge of Michael Mann. It was a biographical genre film, since tells the story of the iconic American boxer Mohamed Ali who was played by Will Smith; for his part, Paul Rodríguez was in charge of giving life to the physiotherapist Fernando Pacheco.

The actor of Mexican descent recalled that throughout his acting career had been typecast in roles of immigrants or Latin American characters, so it was the first time he was hired to play a character not so cliché. However, Will Smith took it upon himself to downplay his involvement.

Paul Rodríguez considered that the attitude of the winner of the Oscar for best actor was due to I had a certain resentment with him because he wanted his friend Danny García to be the one who got the role of Fernando Pacheco.
