Ricky Martin He is not only a successful singer, but he is an artist who has also used his voice to put different topics under the spotlight that many people sometimes do not talk about, such as mental illness.
And this time, during an interview With Telemundo’s Hoy Día television program, the Puerto Rican star revealed that he suffers from a mental health condition that affects more than 40 million people in the United States.
The interpreter of “Livin La Vida Loca” was talking about the audio orbital system, in which he began working with several friends since the COVID pandemic began, and there, referring to the benefits of the invention, stated that he suffers from anxiety.
“We have created a technology, already with a patent, where to speak in Creole, and not be very technical, you will feel that the instruments, individually, fly in your mind. You listen to it in headphones, or depending on what kind of sound you have at home, or in the car, and the beauty of this is that we have done studies where, fortunately, many of us are going to benefit”, began by explaining Martin.
“And I say many of those who suffer from anxiety or depression, or even people who are within the spectrum, it has given them calm,” added the singer, referring to his illness.
The Puerto Rican singer did not elaborate on his answers about his anxiety problems, but in May 2020, he had already stated that the confinement of the pandemic was causing his mental health condition.
“Today I start the 60th day since I started my quarantine. I didn’t want to share the roller coaster this lockdown has been for me. But since the focus on television regarding this virus seems to be only on the importance of keeping your immune system strong, avoiding talking about mental health in times of crisis and the struggles that come with it, I decided to open up to let you know that you’re not alone,” Martin confessed at the time on his Instagram.
“The first two weeks were incredibly overwhelming for me. I felt paralyzed. The duel was intense. I was going through all the phases: denial, anger, sadness, acceptance, and then I was back in denial within an hour,” the father of four added.
“Things were going to be different and there was nothing I could do about it. How arrogant of me. The time we spent creating a strategy for what 2020 would be was collapsing in front of us. What was, will never be. For me, that was a difficult concept to understand, ”Martin confessed at the time”, he concluded.
